The following standards are referenced in Cleansol procedures and specifications. The applicable version and specific requirements are always governed by the customer specification, not by Cleansol.
Standard specification for chemical passivation treatments for stainless steel parts. Referenced in passivation procedures along with any OEM or project-specific requirements.
Standard practice for cleaning, descaling and passivation of stainless steel parts, equipment and systems. Referenced in chemical cleaning and passivation procedures as applicable to the customer specification.
Bioprocessing equipment standard for hygienic systems in pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical applications. Governs passivation requirements for BPE-compliant systems.

What project teams need to plan a cleaning scope
For the PCS Review
- P&IDs or plans showing the systems in scope
- Specification sections governing cleaning, passivation or related scopes
- System list with pipe sizes, lengths and materials
- Acceptance criteria and required test methods
- Project schedule milestones for the cleaning window
- Available utilities: water source, drainage, electrical
- Waste disposal path and any regulatory constraints
Questions to Resolve Early
- Is passivation required, or is chemical cleaning sufficient?
- What metallurgy is present in the systems to be cleaned?
- What are the acceptance criteria and who approves them?
- What temporary connection points are available?
- What waste characterization and disposal approvals are needed?
- What documentation format does the customer quality system require?
- What are the schedule constraints and coordination requirements?
Understanding the Work
What verified results look like
Passivation and Chemical Cleaning Verification
Passivation verification methods depend on the specification. Common methods include copper sulfate testing, high humidity testing, water immersion testing and salt spray testing, as defined in ASTM A967/A967M or the customer specification. Results are recorded against the acceptance criteria in the project documents.
Rinse acceptance for chemical cleaning typically involves conductivity or specific ion testing of the final rinse water, depending on the system and the specification.
Hydronic Flow Verification
Hydronic flushing verification measures actual flow through each branch and compares it to the project flow target. The branch flow log records each measured value and its disposition. Branches that do not meet target are flagged, investigated and re-evaluated.
