Industries Served

Cleansol works in facilities where process system cleanliness, surface condition and documentation matter. The four primary markets share a common requirement: the work must be done correctly, to the specification, and documented for the quality record.

Life Sciences

Pharmaceutical, Biotechnology and Medical Device Manufacturing

Life Sciences facilities operate under cGMP requirements that govern not just the product but the equipment and systems that support it. Passivation, derouging, chemical cleaning and hydronic flushing are required scopes in new construction and renovation projects, and often in operating facility maintenance programs.

Cleansol has worked in regulated pharmaceutical and biotech facilities since 2016. The documentation requirements, the commissioning and qualification sequence and the coordination requirements in a cGMP environment are the context in which all of Cleansol's procedures and documentation standards were developed.

Applications in Life Sciences

  • Passivation of WFI, PW and process piping at new construction
  • Derouging and re-passivation of operating distribution systems
  • Chemical cleaning of process equipment and utility piping
  • Oxygen cleaning for systems carrying oxygen or high-purity gas
  • Hydronic flushing with branch-level flow documentation
  • Equipment exterior cleaning for facility commissioning

Regulated System Types

  • Water for Injection (WFI) distribution
  • Purified Water (PW) distribution
  • Clean Steam generation and distribution
  • Process gases and oxygen systems
  • Hygienic process piping and bioreactor systems
  • HVAC chilled water serving controlled environments
  • Clean-in-Place (CIP) and Steam-in-Place (SIP) systems

Data Centers & Mission-Critical

Liquid-Cooled Facilities, Technology Cooling and Direct-to-Chip

Liquid-cooled data centers run stainless steel technology cooling, CDU and direct-to-chip loops that require passivation for the same reason any high-purity or low-conductivity cooling loop does: corrosion products are unacceptable in the heat transfer circuit.

Cleansol's role in data center projects is narrowly defined: passivation where the specification, metallurgy or OEM requires it; cleaning of high-purity and low-conductivity cooling loops where corrosion products are unacceptable; and specialty component, equipment and prefabricated skid or module cleaning at the shop or on delivery.

Applications in Data Centers

  • Passivation of stainless technology cooling and CDU circuits where the specification or OEM requires it
  • Passivation of direct-to-chip loop piping and prefabricated manifold assemblies
  • Chemical cleaning of cooling loop piping where construction contamination must be removed
  • Specialty component and skid cleaning at the fabrication shop or on delivery

And When Passivation Is Not Required

Passivation is not required on every cooling loop. On a conventional carbon steel or copper chilled water system it is generally not applicable, and we will tell you so. The specification and the metallurgy drive the requirement.

Hydronic flushing and system cleaning for conventional data center cooling circuits is performed by our related company. See cleanhydronics.us for those scopes.

Data Center System Types

  • Stainless steel direct-to-chip (D2C) cooling loops
  • CDU (coolant distribution unit) primary circuits
  • Prefabricated manifold assemblies and cooling modules
  • Technology cooling systems with low-conductivity requirements

Heat-Transfer Fluid Filling

Heat-transfer fluid filling for systems specified with DOWTHERM, THERMINOL or similar products is executed by Cleanhydronics under the engineer's, OEM's and fluid manufacturer's direction. Fluid selection is not Cleansol's determination. See cleanhydronics.us/heat-transfer-fluid-filling/ for that scope.

Semiconductor & Advanced Manufacturing

Semiconductor Fabrication, Specialty Gas Systems and Precision Manufacturing

Semiconductor fabrication facilities and advanced manufacturing operations use ultra-high-purity process systems, specialty gas distribution and precision process equipment that require cleaning to exacting standards. Contamination at any level in these systems affects product yield and equipment performance.

Oxygen and high-purity gas cleaning in semiconductor facilities follows the applicable standard and the customer specification. Cleansol executes to what the project documents require.

Applications in Semiconductor & Advanced Manufacturing

  • High-purity gas system cleaning and verification
  • Oxygen system cleaning per the applicable standard
  • Specialty component and subassembly cleaning
  • Stainless passivation of process and utility systems where specified
  • Equipment exterior cleaning for cleanroom delivery and commissioning

System Types

  • Specialty and high-purity gas distribution
  • Oxygen systems for process and safety applications
  • Ultra-high-purity (UHP) process piping
  • Stainless process utility systems
  • Precision components and subassemblies

Food & Beverage

Food and Beverage Processing and Packaging

Food and beverage processing facilities use hygienic stainless steel systems that require passivation and cleaning to food-grade standards. New construction and major renovation projects include passivation of product-contact piping and vessels as a commissioning requirement.

Cleansol's approach in food and beverage facilities follows the project specification and the applicable food-safety standards. Chemistry selection, rinse requirements and verification are driven by the customer's quality plan and the applicable standard.

Applications in Food & Beverage

  • Passivation of product-contact stainless piping and vessels
  • Chemical cleaning to remove fabrication and installation residue
  • Hydronic flushing with documented flow verification
  • Equipment exterior cleaning for facility commissioning

System Types

  • Hygienic product-contact piping
  • Processing vessels and tanks
  • Clean-in-Place (CIP) systems
  • Process and utility cooling systems
  • Packaging and filling equipment utility connections
