Hydronic System Cleaning, Flushing and Filtration

Pipe diameter determines the flow required to flush a hydronic circuit. Cleansol plans, executes and measures flow through each branch, with documented results against the project flow targets.

The Buyer Problem

Pipe diameter drives the flow requirement, not the overall system size

A large chilled water system can have small-diameter branches that require a much higher flow velocity to flush than the main loop. Planning a hydronic flush without branch-by-branch flow targets means some circuits are inadequately flushed while others are over-flushed.

Flow targets come from the project requirements, not from a universal rule. Cleansol plans the flushing sequence, measures actual flow through each branch and records the results against the specified targets.

How hydronic flushing runs

Flow plan from the drawings

Cleansol reviews the system drawings and develops a branch-by-branch flow plan with the required flow rates for each circuit derived from the pipe diameters and the project specification.

Temporary equipment setup

Flushing pumps, strainers, temporary piping and flow measurement equipment are staged and connected. Isolation and temporary bypasses are coordinated with the site team.

Flush execution by circuit

Each branch is flushed in sequence, with filtration in the flushing loop to remove debris. Strainer baskets are inspected and documented through the process.

Flow measurement and recording

Actual flow through each branch is measured and recorded against the project target. Branches that do not meet target are investigated and re-flushed.

Water quality verification

System water quality is verified against the acceptance criteria in the project documents. Chemical treatment is applied only if specified and approved.

Turnover documentation

The branch flow log, strainer inspection records and water quality results are assembled into the CLEANDOC package for the turnover package.

Flow Targets Come From the Project, Not a Universal Rule

Cleansol does not publish a universal velocity target because the right target depends on the project specification and the system design. We use what the project documents specify or, in the absence of a specification, work with the engineer to establish appropriate criteria.

Equipment and Temporary Systems

Temporary flushing and measurement equipment for each circuit

Cleansol configures portable flushing pumps, temporary bypass piping, strainers and portable flow measurement instrumentation for each flushing circuit. Equipment is staged and connected to minimize interference with other active construction scopes.

Verification and Acceptance

Flow documented by branch, not by system average

Every branch in scope is measured individually. The branch flow log records the measured value and the project target for each circuit, and any branch that does not meet target is flagged and re-evaluated. The complete log is included in the turnover package.
